Abstract

This study aims to determine technical, allocative and economic efficiency of Mexico ports in the period 2000-2010, using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) methodology with bootstrap technique to give robustness to estimates obtained. The results show that in general, any port was economically efficient. However, Manzanillo, Progreso, Veracruz and Altamira ports had the highest levels of efficiency. The main limitation of this paper, is in the study period considered, because it was not available the required information for all ports in previous years, mainly as regards prices. The originality of the research is the calculation of technical, scale, allocative and economic efficiencies with Bootstrap at the ports of Mexico, this because there are not studies with these specific characteristics, as noted in the literature review. It is concluded that in general, in terms of economic efficiency, it hasn´t had an appropriate use of resources in port sector in our country.
