Abstract

The objective of this research is to determine whether there is a relationship between innovation and competitive performance in Mexican manufacturing export enterprises, especially SMEs. To this end, we used a mixed research with a longitudinal study of the years 2007 to 2010 and field work through a survey of a sample of 402 companies. A model of multiple logistic regression to determine the relationship between these variables was generated. The main findings show that competitiveness and increase R & D + i in the exporting SME depends on the ratio of the generated links between sales, the employed population, job stability and the level of academic training of staff to intensive of labor or economies of scale. This implies the importance of human capital in these companies, and it can be concluded that an important boost innovation in this sort of firms is given by the capability of its human capital.
